How To Buy Or Sell Your Next Commercial Truck Or Equipment More Effectively.
70Eliminate the Frustrations of Privately Selling a Commercial Truck or Heavy Equipment.
In today's climate you need to be a bit creative when it comes to buying and selling used commercial trucks & equipment. Let's start with the seller in mind. Private Party sellers run into the same frustrations over and over again, they pay to list the equipment in several trade magazines or online advertising sites to find that there ad is mixed in with thousands of other ads from dealers who offer financing. Most buyers skip right over the “for sale by owner” ads because they think the dealer will get them financed and are even willing to pay more on the equipment they are selling. You feel the money you spent on your ads is not producing the calls you expected. The most frustrating is when you do finally get a serious buyer and you’ve negotiated the price and are ready to be paid, than you hear the all too familiar words, “I have to go to my bank to get financing”. At first you don’t think anything about it, after all he’s a business man and he probably wouldn’t waste his time checking out the equipment if he didn’t think he can get a loan. Nervously you contact the buyer about a week later and he tells you he is still in the process and should have the funds in a couple of days. Understandably you realize these things take time so another week goes by and he says the bank requested additional information to make a credit decision and I should know in a few days. You patiently wait because your paid advertisements have already expired and you don’t want to pay for another ad if indeed this equipment is sold. End result the buyer finally contacts you and gives you the bad news, “I didn’t get approved (for one reason or another) and can’t get financed”. The dreadful cycle begins again and you pay for another ad and so on and so on. It happens way too often mostly due to the fact that most banks will not lend on private party sales transactions. Other reasons could be that the equipment is too old or just the plain fact that most banks are abandoning these types of loans all together because they are not familiar with your industry or the type of equipment you are selling.
You want to eliminate as many obstacles as possible and maximize your advertising efforts by partnering with a credible finance company that specializes in Commercial Vehicle & Equipment Financing that you can refer potential buyers to. Once you know who you will be working with and know they will finance the truck or equipment you are selling you want to start advertising. The words “Financing Available” should appear in all your advertisements and you can even include the contact information of the finance company so potential buyers can contact them directly or you can just refer buyers to them when they call. I can almost guaranty you’ll get more calls and sell your equipment much faster. You’ll also want to post to as many free online ad sites that cater to private party sellers of commercial trucks & equipment to get the most exposure possible.

Being Creative When Buying Your Next Commercial Truck or Equipment Will Save You Time & Money.
Assuming you have done all your homework and know the exact type truck or equipment you need to purchase you then have to compare pricing buying new versus used. New trucks and equipment can come with additional costs and concerns. Consider initial sale price, sales tax, additional FET tax and dealer fees for total cash outlay. Sometimes the equipment may not be ready for immediate delivery. Keep in mind if for any reason you have to sell the new equipment within first year or two of acquisition this is when the equipment has its most depreciation. Chances are it can be financially beneficial if you can locate a great used truck or equipment a few years old that meets your specifications to help save you money.
If deciding new or used you then have to locate the equipment. Buyer will most likely search dealers and private party sellers through online ads and trade magazines. Once you locate the equipment you have to decide how you’re going to pay for it. Most small business owners do not have cash on hand or liquidity to purchase without financing. In these financial times companies want to hang onto their cash and finance the equipment purchase. Buyer then seeks out a lender that specializes in commercial truck and equipment financing. Most lenders will only consider financing new equipment or late model used from licensed dealers. Very few lenders will consider Private Party Sales and older equipment even though there can be significant savings. Private sellers are more inclined to discount price because they don’t have as much activity or calls seeking to purchase their equipment or inventory as a dealer. They receive very few calls and are under time constraints to sell as quickly as possible. If you desire to purchase from private party or find older equipment you then you have to find a lender that specializes in that situation. Experienced lenders should be able to qualify you over the phone and give an estimation of the terms. If quote is acceptable you will then have to apply and go thru a formal credit process to determine if your credit will be approved. Some lenders are more aggressive or more flexible on their credit criteria.
If approved, finance documents are signed and sale is consummated.

Very interesting. I have two moving vans I want to sell and think I'll try some of these great ideas.
Thanks
How true. I had to pass up on a great deal my friend was giving me on his used tow truck because my bank wouldn't finance a private party deal. I wound up going to a dealer and paid a lot more $$ for the exact same truck with more miles on it.
Wish I knew back then that there are companies out there that lend on commercial trucks from private sellers. I'll know what to do next time.
The problem which mentioned above are the most common problem faced by the most of the dealer. But i think that to place the online ad for commercial trucks for sale or buy is the most convenient and the cost effective way to reach to the every corner of the world without any restriction.

Great insight. This makes a lot of sense and very true. I have had problems trying to sell my sewer equipment for those very reasons.
